Geotechnical Geologist (Entry Level) at Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, D.P.C.

This is a full‑time, entry‑level position located in Northern New Jersey. The role involves supporting a long‑term project and working alongside licensed engineers and geologists.

Pay Range Base pay: $28.00/hr – $32.00/hr (actual pay based on skills and experience).

Essential Functions

Monitoring construction and geologic operations.

Collecting samples of materials as needed.

Utilizing field testing equipment to determine compliance with project plans, specifications, and industry standards.

Reviewing approved plans, specifications, and submittals for inspection requirements.

Ensuring compliance with inspection requirements in accordance with applicable codes, approved plans, and specifications.

Processing daily field reports and inspection reports and following procedures for notification of discrepancies.

Communicating with project managers, colleagues, and contractors as required.

This position may require occasional night and weekend work based on project needs.

Testing procedures and inspections may include conducting field testing and sampling of concrete in accordance with ASTM standard procedures, in‑place density testing of soils and/or asphalt, coring operations, and soil sampling/inspection.

Qualifications

BS degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field required.

Entry‑level candidates are encouraged to apply; 1–2 years of relevant field experience preferred.

Ability to complete OSHA 10‑Hour Construction Safety and Health Training within a reasonable timeframe upon commencement of employment.

Concrete, asphalt, or other related certifications are a plus but not required.

Ability to review and understand industry standards, plans, and specifications and recognize deficiencies.

Effective communication skills with supervisors, clients, contractors, and inspectors regarding specifications and qualification test results.

Ability to record project data and complete required field inspection reports and documentation.

Valid driver’s license and transportation to travel to the project site, as regular daily travel is required.

Physical Requirements

Assume a stationary position.

Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials, and/or equipment relevant to the job.

Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using company email and telephone systems.

Move around on the job site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and position oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time.

Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections.

Good visual skills, including focused depth perception.

Regular daily operations of a motor‑vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT regulations, and/or company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer and other related office machinery.
