Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Assign team members to activities, ensuring staff coverage meets customer demands and redeploying when necessary; provide daily coaching, feedback, and performance coaching; partner with ASM for formal disciplinary action when required.
Operational Excellence: Empower and coach the team to follow proper processes and achieve operational efficiencies; monitor key performance metrics; identify and resolve operational barriers; respond quickly to unexpected events, reprioritize tasks, and maintain safe use of store power equipment.
Safety, Security & Shrink Prevention: Maintain focus on safety, security, and shrink prevention; secure doors and gates, report shoplifting or theft, and monitor the store for hazards and potential theft risks.
Operational Improvement: Recommend strategies to reduce unproductive time, waste, or product loss; analyze operational activities to reduce impact on the customer; pursue self‑development and cross‑functional collaboration.
Front‑End Responsibilities: Oversee efficiencies in front‑end activities (check‑outs, returns, overrides, till audits, PUIS Desk, etc.); ensure customer service staff greets customers, answers phones, and addresses inquiries; maintain appropriate headcount; handle register pulls, loans, and payroll closeout.
Back‑End & Night Operations: Oversee receiving, stocking, assembling, freight flow, and delivery staging; ensure items are stocked, fronted, and aisles are clear; support efficient product disbursement from receiving to sales.
Manager‑on‑Duty (MOD): Provide full leadership over the store during overnight shift; walk the store, coach associates, manage staff response to call buttons, and maintain clean, safe aisles; hand off shift observations to the next MOD and funnel non‑MOD activities to appropriate leaders.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in a retail environment.
Experience providing direction or supervision to teams (direct reports or not).
Experience in training, mentoring, and developing associates.
Experience working cross‑functionally.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to obtain sales‑related license or registration as required by law.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting front‑end or back‑end operations in a retail environment.
Experience in a customer service role.
Direct report management experience.
Experience in the home‑improvement retail sector.
Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic retail environment.
Key‑carrying role with manager‑on‑duty responsibilities.
Familiarity with store computer systems (Project Tool, Genesis, Sterling, M2O, Thin Client, etc.).
