We invite dedicated professionals to join our teaching laboratory at Wayne State University. As a Laboratory Technician in the Department of Oncology, you will play a crucial role in supporting experimental work and ensuring the smooth operation of instructional laboratory activities.
Essential Functions (Job Duties)
Prepare and maintain laboratory supplies, equipment, and experimental test materials for teaching labs.
Set up and review experimental protocols, including preparation of chemical solutions, media, reagents, and stained hematology slides.
Assist faculty with all laboratory tests and procedures.
Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment—replace fuses, bulbs, and filters; wash and sterilize glassware; dispose of biohazardous materials; store supplies safely.
Maintain equipment inventory; order and restock chemicals, reagents, drugs, and other supplies; prepare requisition orders; distribute materials from central stores.
Provide training and support to faculty and students on laboratory skills, safety, and procedures; proctor examinations; evaluate student performance.
Execute additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent; coursework in biology and/or chemistry preferred.
Experience with laboratory techniques and safe handling of biohazardous chemicals.
Familiarity with teaching laboratory methods and procedures.
Ability to operate specialized scientific equipment (centrifuge, microscope, autoclave, spectrophotometer).
Strong attention to detail, ability to follow written and oral instructions, and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Prior experience as a Laboratory Aide is typical.

Salary
Annual Salary: $32,007 – $38,404
