Surgical Assistant
Practice Killeen Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Location Killeen, TX
Office Hours Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM & Friday: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Position Purpose The surgical assistant is responsible for ensuring the compassionate, effective, and efficient delivery of high‑quality clinical care for patients while practicing and providing safety in the work environment. The ideal candidate will assist oral surgeons during procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow in a fast‑paced environment. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high‑quality patient care.
Responsibilities
Ensure that all patients receive the highest quality of care and service
Communicate with all patients (both in‑person and by phone) in a friendly and professional manner
Maintain positive, pleasant, and professional relationships between patients, staff members, and surgeons
Assist oral surgeons during surgical procedures and prepare instruments, materials, and equipment needed for various surgical procedures
Support efforts that provide a clean and professional environment for all patients, including, but not limited to, ensuring that operatories are clean, supplies are adequate, equipment is maintained, and compliance with all company policies is maintained
Monitor patient’s vital signs during surgical procedures and provide support as needed
Assist with postoperative care, including patient education and follow‑up instructions
Documentation of patient encounters and surgical procedures accurately
Collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, efficient workflow, and exceptional patient care
Attend and participate in regular team meetings
Adhere to best practices and established protocols and highest patient safety standards
Support monthly office checks:
Crash carts
Fire extinguishers
Emergency preparedness attestations
Attest
X‑ray unit calibration
Omni‑cam calibration
Drug book accuracy Controlled substance inventory
Oxygen tanks are full and hooked up
Invoices for controlled substances are being printed
Ensure proper controlled substance safety protocols are adhered to
Qualifications Education/Certification
High School Diploma or equivalent required (some college, preferred)
2+ Registered Dental Assistance experience with IV sedation experience - Required
Experience as an oral surgery assistant - Preferred
DAANCE certification - Preferred
Basic life support certification required. Employer will provide training if the candidate is not current

Work environment/Conditions
Fast‑paced dental office environment
Overtime is sometimes required as needed to perform job functions
Some travel as needed for training and to perform job functions
Safety procedures required, including protection to minimize the risks from X‑rays
Potential long hours standing
