The Experienced Clinical Nurse on the Rehabilitation & Neurosurgery unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating, and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes, and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in nursing, an RN license and at least twelve months of recent RN experience in an acute care setting. Shift will be 7pm-7am, with rotating weekends and holidays required.

The Rehabilitation & Neurosurgery unit is a 32‑bed unit and the unit cares for neurosurgery, neuro‑oncology, and in‑patient rehab patients. The patient population is mostly adults ages 18 and older. Our unit focuses on acute care patients and Neuro Progressive Care patients who require more hands‑on monitoring the first 24 hours post‑surgery. Quality and patient outcomes are at the heart of our practice, and the team actively participates in Evidence‑Based Practice, unit and hospital‑based committees, and local and national conferences.

The acute care rehabilitation service helps to safely transition patients to a community setting. Rehabilitation services include bowel and bladder retraining, dysphagia management, tracheostomy and ostomy management, wound care, and medication management.

Education Required:

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in nursing.

Work Experience Required:

All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program. This position is not eligible for the residency program.

Preferred:

Must have at least one year of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN) and American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Preferred:

OCN – Oncology Nurse Certification or certification in specialty practice area.
