We are currently hiring for a Dental Hygienist in Milwaukee, WI at Progressive Community Health Centers.

Who are we? Founded in 1999, Progressive Community Health Centers is an independent non‑profit organization that operates four clinic locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. More than 100 employees support our agency’s mission to improve the health and quality of life of the community by providing culturally competent services that address identified needs. We provide high quality, comprehensive care to roughly 16,000 patients annually, a majority of whom are low‑income. No one is ever turned away from our clinics based on insurance status or ability to pay. We value a patient‑centered philosophy and provide a range of services that include family medicine, internal medicine, women’s health, urgent care, dental, radiology and integrated behavioral health. We also offer supportive services such as case management, health education and benefits enrollment.

National Health Service Corp Loan Repayment Program In exchange for loan repayment, you serve at least two years of service at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).

What will you do? Participate in the dental treatment of patients by performing all aspects of hygiene, including examining teeth and educating patients about proper oral hygiene. Take and develop radiographs and assist the dentist with patient care in accordance with and as prescribed by the State of Wisconsin.

Essential Functions

Work closely with dentists to carry out recommended clinical treatments, such as scaling and polishing to prevent and control periodontal (gum) disease.

Perform dental prophylaxis, apply topical fluorides, examine teeth, and assist the dentist with procedures as required.

Take and process radiographs and evaluate developed radiographs.

Administer minor treatments under the supervision of the dentist.

Chart patient needs, presenting problem(s), medical and dental health history, tooth charting, and review social history.

Review treatment recommendations with patients and manage patient hygiene regimens.

Take and record vital signs prior to rendering dental care.

Assist in the development of prevention programs for patients.

Perform maintenance and sterilization duties.

Attend office training, meetings, and continuing education classes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Capable of managing patient flow effectively with providers, staff members, and patients in a fast‑paced environment.

Able to follow and apply established office policies and procedures.

Good rapport with people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Empathy for patients, treating them with dignity and respect in a professional and courteous manner.

Willingness to work flexible hours to meet patient care needs.

Knowledge of anesthetic usage and procedures for both children and adults.

Knowledge of universal precautions and blood‑borne pathogens.

Clear documentation skills for patient vital signs, chief complaint, and detailed charting.

Education, Training and Experience Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university Dental Hygiene program and currently licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin. Previous hygiene experience is preferred, with experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center a plus.
