About Kanbe’s Markets:
Kanbe’s Markets is dedicated to providing fresh, high-quality produce to underserved communities. Our mission is to create a healthier and more equitable food system. As a key part of our team, you’ll help bring this mission to life by ensuring the efficient distribution of produce to our store locations, maintaining the quality of our products, and representing Kanbe’s in the community.
Summary of Position The Redirection Associate supports all operations related to the mobilization of volunteers and food redirection in the Kanbe’s Warehouse. This position works with volunteers and the Redirection Program Team to sort produce, maintain quality standards, and keep the warehouse environment clean and organized. Ideal candidates enjoy hands‑on work, interacting with volunteers, and contributing to a mission‑driven nonprofit environment. This position reports to the Redirection Program Manager.
Responsibilities Core Duties & Responsibilities Volunteer Experience
Welcome volunteer groups at Kanbe’s Markets
Provide groups a positive, meaningful sorting experience
Ensures that quality control standards for sorting produce are upheld
Work with Volunteer Manager and External Affairs to advertise to volunteers about opportunities to donate and continue to volunteer
Donation Program
Greet & load out Hunger Relief Partners as needed
Assist in packing donation pallets
Support detailed record keeping of redirected destinations and volume
General Warehouse Operations
Maintain organization, cleanliness and work flow of warehouse spaces
Maintain cleanliness of all supplies needed for food redirection sorting (cans, boxes, crates, etc.)
Manage trash and recycling levels within warehouse
Collaborate with the Redirection Team to log all incoming produce and units sorted and redirected to respective destinations
Provide general support to Redirection Coordinators and Managers in daily operations
Qualifications Required Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Organizational skills
Attention to detail
Able to lift 40lbs
Ability to stand and work for long periods of time
Able to operate a pallet jack (with training)
Basic computer skills including email, word processing, and online programs
Ability to follow procedures and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
Preferred Skills
Experience with fresh produce handling
Inventory management
Class E driver’s license
Experience with youth programming
Electric Pallet Jack & Forklift certification (Available through Kanbe’s if required for this role)
Occasional evening and weekend availability
Food Handler’s Card
Pre-Employment Requirements
Background Check
Reference Check
Negative drug test prior to employment.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting hourly rate:
$20/hour
(commensurate with experience).
Full-time position with health insurance benefits.
Paid Time Off (PTO) available after 90 days of continuous employment.
Impact Description Within 1 month you will:
Finish orientation to the Kanbe’s mission, workflow, staff, current projects and get set up on all Kanbe’s systems
Ride along with a delivery driver to see our community in person, see our coolers in operation and understand the daily lifecycle of the Kanbe’s operation
Observe and participate in a volunteer group’s scheduled event at Kanbe’s including: observing a tour and sorting orientation, sorting produce, and participating in a debrief
Meet donation partners and observe the process of receiving and preparing donations for pick up
Within 3 months you will:
Aid in tracking all Redirection volunteer hours
Provide a welcoming and inviting experience for in-person interaction with donation partners
Within 6 months you will:
Maintain cleanliness, tidiness and upkeep of sorting area
Competently answer questions related to Kanbe’s quality control standards
Communicate the Kanbe’s mission and vision when needed
Keep accurate records for all Redirection efforts
Forge strong, personal relationships with Kanbe’s stakeholders, volunteers, Hunger Relief partners and other Kanbe’s staff
