The salary range for this role is $40.50–$64.80 per hour. Placement within the range is based on experience, internal equity, and collective bargaining agreement requirements for union‑represented positions.

Responsibilities Quality

Develop and implement educational opportunities for staff identified through needs assessments, departmental and system goals, and new/expanded clinical programs.

Support staff in seeking and maintaining specialty certification, monitoring progress and completion.

Participate in review of unit/division dashboards through LDOC, assessing opportunities to improve quality and practice, and develop corresponding actions with key stakeholders.

Monitor and trend quality report data with the operational manager for clinical quality/safety issues, and develop associated action plans.

Lead or facilitate inter‑professional teams for unit/division‑based and house‑wide clinical process improvement.

Culture of Safety

Plan, implement, and evaluate division‑specific learning activities to improve safety, such as simulations with the Professional Practice and Development team.

Conduct unit‑based clinical policy and procedure reviews/updating.

Provide input into staff evaluations related to clinical competence.

Round on unit with intent to coach and mentor.

Identify gaps in staff knowledge/skills and remediate.

Participate in the Staff RN Peer Review process.

Evidence‑Based Practice / Research

Identify opportunities, mentor, and implement EBP projects, including unit/division order sets and practice guidelines.

Identify, mentor, and/or participate in nursing or inter‑professional clinical research projects.

Assist in interpreting research findings and developing strategies for implementation into evidence‑based clinical practice guidelines.

Shared Leadership

Attend unit‑based staff meetings, shared leadership meetings (POC), and the Clinical Nurse Leadership Council (CNLC).

Attend unit leadership (LDOC) meetings.

Participate in off‑unit committee/project teams as appropriate.

Fiscal Stewardship

Evaluate new products and recommend to the value‑based purchasing committee.

Recommend improvements in clinical efficiency in partnership with the operational manager.

Use organizational and unit resources efficiently.

Manage work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.

Annual Competency / Orientation / Retention

Lead content review and revision for unit‑based orientation annually.

Actively participate in new employee orientation (PCS orientation and unit orientation).

Monitor new hire goal progress and conduct check‑ins.

Utilize internal/external resources to develop and implement the unit’s annual competency and education plans, maintaining completion records.

Collaborate with the unit manager to evaluate ongoing progress toward staff completion of education plans.

Education & Coaching

Provide informal unit‑based education based on learning needs assessments.

Deliver formal classroom instruction and skills assessments, including competency assessments.

Enhance educational offerings by incorporating the NM Toolkit (Safety, Service, and Leadership), NMI Diversity and Inclusion Resources, and NM Values in Action into content.

Maintain visibility on all shifts and serve as a resource to off‑shift staff.

Communicate efficiently and effectively, modeling critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.

Focus on “just‑in‑time” bedside teaching.

Leadership

Advocate for patients, families, nursing staff, and other healthcare community members.

Assume a leadership role in professional activities and organizations.

Serve as a patient advocate and model a “Patients First” philosophy.

Help develop policies and procedures in clinical expertise areas to establish nursing practice standards.

Participate in department and hospital committees and task forces to facilitate changes and improve patient care using evidence‑based guidelines.

Consult with nursing and hospital leadership to identify, evaluate, and solve clinical system and process issues.

Collaborate with NM leadership teams to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans for quality improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with physicians to lead changes in clinical practice.

Collaborate with leaders in academic, political, and financial institutions to promote health care reform.

Serve as a consultant to the Department of Nursing to advance nursing practice and leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Master’s in Science in Nursing or a plan to obtain it within four years of assuming the role

Registered Nursing license issued by the State of Illinois

Certification in a related clinical area, or a plan to obtain it when eligible

3–5 years of experience in the specific clinical area

BLS certification through the American Heart Association
