Department/Unit Summary
72 Bed Facility
3 Units, 24 Patients per Unit
2 Nurses and 3 PCAs per Unit
12 Hour Shifts
Behavioral Health Technician II Position Summary Delivers direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse to individuals with psychiatric or substance use disorders, supports the therapeutic milieu, contributes to treatment planning, and serves as a role model and mentor for other staff.
Essential Functions
Provide patient care tasks delegated by the RN, including taking vital signs, collecting specimens, documenting care, facilitating group education, and monitoring patients.
Demonstrate effective milieu management and accompany patients to meals, breaks, off‑unit visits, and appointments.
Report medical or psychiatric changes to the RN and assist with admissions, including belongings inventory, visitation, and vital signs.
Document property at admission and discharge, conduct safety checks, and promote a clean, therapeutic environment.
Encourage patients with activities of daily living and facilitate or co‑facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups.
Apply crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques and maintain knowledge of program policies and procedures.
Provide orientation and mentorship to new staff members, serve as a preceptor, and train colleagues on group facilitation and maintaining a therapeutic milieu.
Employ therapeutic communication, assess patient needs related to chemical dependency, and document plans of care from admission through discharge.
Participate in treatment planning as part of the interdisciplinary team and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a psychiatric health‑care facility working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric, or geriatric patients preferred.
Certifications: CPR and de‑escalation certification required within 30 days of hire.
