School Based Behavioral Health Clinician – ACT / Helen Baldwin
This Licensed Independent Behavioral Health Provider will support students and their families as a CHC employee in a school based clinic. The role includes performing diagnostic psychosocial evaluations, developing care plans, offering individual, family, or group therapy, and collaborating with psychiatric and/or medical providers as part of the client’s care team. All clinical interventions will be documented in accordance with CHC policy, Joint Commission standards, and state regulatory expectations.
This full‑time, salaried position follows a 195‑day school calendar.
Clinical Responsibilities
Complete initial behavioral health evaluations and provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy with children and/or adults in an outpatient clinic.
Run at least five (5) groups each week of direct clinical work.
Practice as part of an interdisciplinary team, accepting warm hand‑offs and identifying patients in need of behavioral health services using the BH clinical dashboard.
Consult with internal and external providers regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
Coordinate with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs; refer for medication management as necessary.
Attend clinical team meetings and component meetings as assigned.
Meet productivity standards outlined annually during performance appraisal reviews, focusing on quality clinical care.
Encourage clients to express feelings, develop insights, and discuss life events.
Perform crisis interventions and assess immediate safety concerns (e.g., homicide, suicide, domestic violence).
Guide clients in developing skills or strategies to achieve identified goals.
Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and regulatory standards.
Evaluate ongoing treatment effectiveness and modify activities or approaches as needed.
Discuss life‑after‑therapy plans with individual patients.
Support family members in understanding and supporting clients.
Maintain awareness of new developments in the field and gather community mental health resources.
Licensed clinicians may supervise student interns or other staff; unlicensed clinicians are actively working toward licensure.
Administrative Responsibilities
Complete all documentation required by state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CHC Behavioral Health department laws in a timely manner, including intake, prior authorization requests, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
Finalize and lock all treatment notes no later than the end of the next business day.
Complete reports required for outside agencies such as DCF, Family Relations, probation, and others with appropriate client releases.
Participate as a member of agency‑wide committees as assigned.
Qualifications
Licensure: LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of CT. Preferred. One with an associate license (MLSW, PC‑A, MFT‑A) and ability to obtain full licensure within 3 years is acceptable.
Minimum two years of outpatient experience, including with children and/or adults.
Theoretical orientation consistent with brief, problem‑focused therapy.
Reliable access to an automobile or transportation for agency consults, meetings, and home visits.
Bilingual fluency in a language spoken by the patient population (e.g., English/Spanish) is preferred.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Combination of sustained periods of sitting at a keyboard, walking, and stair climbing.
Minimal lifting and carrying activities.
Communication Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must interface with patients, family members, community agencies, and other providers within the organization.
Confidentiality of Information
Behavioral health information must remain strictly confidential, in accordance with CHC policies.
Responsibility for client data entry and access to medical system information.
Handle confidential patient correspondence appropriately.
