Overview
VCU Massey Center at the new Adult Outpatient Pavilion offers a single point of care for outpatient cancer services, including hematology, medical, surgical, and radiation oncology clinics. It is an NCI Cancer Center that offers clinical trials, cutting‑edge treatments, enhanced imaging, and more to provide comprehensive treatment options.

Clinical Nurse I Responsibilities
Assist the health care team in preventing illness and injury, maintaining wellness, and providing comfort.
Deliver direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan of care.
Accurately document direct care.
Safely administer medications and identify incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Provide direction and education, and begin to acquire leadership skills at the unit level.
Clinical Nurse II Responsibilities
Demonstrate mastery of clinical skills and begin to apply knowledge to a specific patient population.
Assist the health care team in prevention, maintenance, and comfort as described above.
Recognize changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately.
Mobilize resources to meet individualized needs of patients/families.
Provide direction, education, and assume leadership responsibilities at the unit level.
Deliver and accurately document direct care.
Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Clinical Nurse III Responsibilities
Demonstrate clinical knowledge at the unit level and apply it to a specific patient population.
Assist the health care team in prevention, maintenance, and comfort as described above.
Anticipate changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately.
Provide direction, education, and serve as a role model in a clinical setting.
Deliver and accurately document direct care.
Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Licensure for Hire
Current RN licensure in Virginia or an eligible or compact state.
Licensure for Continued Employment
Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
Experience Required
Clinical Nurse I: N/A
Clinical Nurse II: 12–24 months RN experience.
Clinical Nurse III: 3 years clinical experience.
Experience Preferred
Clinical Nurse I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in acute care or applicable area of practice.
Clinical Nurse II/III: Academic Health Care Experience; experience with similar patient population in acute care or applicable area of practice.
Education & Training Required
Clinical Nurse I, II, III: Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state Board of Nursing.
All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years unless grandfathered.
Education & Training Preferred
Clinical Nurse I, II, III: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
Clinical Nurse III: Certification in a specialty area.
Independent Actions Required
Follow documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.
Practice within the regulations governing nursing practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards.
Follow VCUHS policies, procedures, and established practice.
Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable)
Organize work, delegate, and supervise others (RNs, LPNs, care partners, unit secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
Physical Requirements
Lifting 20–50 lbs.; exposure to hazardous or infectious substances.
Activities: prolonged standing, sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing stairs or ladder, reaching overhead, repetitive motions.
Mental/Sensory: strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
Emotional: fast‑pace environment, steady pace, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
