Patient Access Representative - Center for Team Care - Adult Outpatient Pavilion - Days Join VCU Health as a Patient Access Representative and provide quality customer service to patients, families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians, and co‑workers. You will ensure everyone is treated courteously, quickly, and with respect while managing reception, scheduling, registration, and related administrative functions.

Responsibilities

Offer professional customer service to patients, families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians, and co‑workers.

Establish and maintain an environmental control plan for the department.

Coordinate materials management and monitor clinic activities.

Supervise clerical activities.

Handle all business functions in the assigned area, including reception, scheduling, and patient registration.

Secure appropriate patient information, ensure registration data accuracy, validate insurance eligibility, enter data into systems, collect co‑pay (if applicable), and assist with financial counseling and clearance as needed.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

previous experience with computers, Microsoft Office, Internet navigation, and typing at 40 words per minute.

Experience Preferred:

work experience with medical insurance, HMO, managed care, electronic medical billing/order entry/registration systems, and appointment scheduling; previous work experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology.

Education/Training Required:

high school graduate or GED.

Education/Training Preferred:

associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a closely related field from an accredited program.

Independent Action(s) Required

Perform daily activities with minimal supervision, being self‑directed in the accomplishment of routine activities.

Bring issues involving violation of VCUHS policy or procedures that involve conflicts of a sensitive nature to the attention of the clinical coordinator or designee promptly.

Notify supervisor of issues involving violation of VCUHS policies or procedures.

Function in a self‑directed manner to accomplish routine activities.

Additional Position Requirements

Depending on assignment, may be required to work off‑shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Incumbents may be considered essential depending on departmental assignment.

Physical Requirements

Physical: Lift less than 20 lbs. Lift 50–100 lbs.

Activities: Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).

Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking.

Emotional: Fast‑pace environment, steady pace, handle multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions, noisy environment, adapt to frequent change.
