Barnes‑Jewish West County Hospital | Creve Coeur, MO

Unit Overview The 2100 Inpatient Unit at BJWCH consists of Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, and Plastic Surgery patients. We are a short‑stay unit that strives to provide our patients with an exceptional post‑operative experience, ensuring they are discharged home safely.

Med/Surg 2 manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastics, and other general post‑surgical conditions. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse and works in collaboration with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Promote patient and family‑centered care in a healing environment. Educate patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care needs and medication administration.

Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, and in professional development.

Develop, implement, and document individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient/family or caregiver, following established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plan and ensure communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.

Use critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.

BJC has determined this is a safety‑sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate’s

Experience: No experience required

Supervisor Experience: No experience required

Licenses & Certifications: RN

Preferred Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
