The Environmental Scientist specializing in Wetland Delineation and Endangered Species will lead field and regulatory efforts focused on habitat mapping and identifying at‑risk wildlife, with an emphasis on gopher tortoises. The ideal candidate will combine strong biological expertise with excellent communication skills, supporting both on‑the‑ground habitat assessments and public engagement related to species protection.
This role supports statewide conservation programs, implements permitting standards, and collaborates with agency partners, landowners, and conservation organizations to ensure long-term viability of protected species.
Primary Function The Environmental Scientist specializing in Wetland Delineation and Endangered Species will lead field and regulatory efforts focused on habitat mapping and identifying at‑risk wildlife, with an emphasis on gopher tortoises. The ideal candidate will combine strong biological expertise with excellent communication skills, supporting both on‑the‑ground habitat assessments and public engagement related to species protection.
Primary Duties
Perform Habitat Mapping and Wetland Delineations
Perform Listed Species Surveys, Permitting and Relocation Activities
Habitat and Land Management Plans
May serve as team leader in small projects and help train junior-level staff.
May assist more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.
Assists in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
Performs site visits, field observations, and field data collection and/or field assignments for clients.
May oversee work performed by lower-level scientists but does not typically have supervisory responsibility.
Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a 4-year degree in biology, environmental science, or related science
5 years' related experience with an environmental scientific background. This includes considerable experience in utilizing technical software and computer-related tools within the discipline
This position is out of the Palmetto, FL Office Location- Local day trips with occasional overnight travel are a possibility
Familiarity with State and Federal Environmental Permitting Processes
May specialize in environmental science, soil science, GIS (Global Information Systems)
Experience with protected species such as tortoise and gopher
