Position Experienced SUE Field Technician – Englewood, Colorado Office
Qualifications
Mid‑level experience in Air and Hydro Vacuum Excavation (SUE Locating) (preferred)
Mid‑level understanding of utility locating methods: buried telephone, fiber optic cable, coaxial cable, power (electric), gas, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, etc. (preferred)
Mid‑level experience in reading and interpreting DOT, municipal, and other plans/prints to identify type and size of underground utilities
Vac truck experience (preferred)
Valid Driver’s License required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) a plus
Survey experience a plus
Motivation to work in a dynamic environment with strict deadlines
Interest in developing relationships with clients, partners, and local organizations to remain a trusted resource in the community
Essential Functions
Locate, designate, and mark underground utilities within prescribed quality/accuracy limits
Perform Level A (QL‑A) SUE locating via nondestructive techniques with high‑pressure air/hydro wand, concrete saws, core drills, and vacuum hose systems
Perform Level B (QL‑B) SUE designating via electromagnetic equipment and, when included, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning; document estimated electronic depth readings
Document site conditions and SUE information via photographs and/or video; perform video inspections of sewers when necessary
May perform Level C (QL‑C) and Level D (QL‑D) SUE, including surveying visible utilities, manholes, valve boxes, and obtaining existing utility records
Record accurate documentation/sketches of underground utility field data using CF’s online GIS‑based mapping software
Operate large profile vehicles with/without attached trailers and perform vehicle maintenance
Report punctually and be dependable with attendance
May cross‑train to perform other field services (Survey, Telecommunications, etc.)
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
Physical/Cognitive Requirements
Indoor/Outdoor: approx. 80% outdoor; tasks include extended sitting and standing, mobility, head/neck movement, repetitive motion, arm movement, object handling, cognitive tasks (attention, comprehension, reasoning), physical abilities (strength, coordination, endurance), alertness, lifting up to 100 lbs, walking/climbing long distances, outdoor exposure
Safety: requires personal protective equipment and use of pneumatic, hand and power tools; driving large pickups with trailers; possible watercraft operation
Expected Work Hours
Full‑time: generally 40 hrs per week; hours may fluctuate including overtime
Standard operating hours Monday‑Friday 7:30 AM‑4:30 PM CST; 1‑hour unpaid lunch break; hours may differ by project workload, primarily for field staff
Work Location Flexibility This position requires in‑person work and is ineligible for remote work.
