Brief Posting Description The P CM METER READING Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)

Job Function Reads electric meters, including demand meters, in the field; records readings; compares consumption; observes and reports unusual and irregular conditions.

Essential Functions Fundamental Responsibilities

Locate meters according to address and location code and special instructions. Read kilowatt-hour, reactive kilowatt-hour and indicating demand meters and record readings in designated manner. Compare reading with the estimated high-low range limits, re‑verify reading with the estimated high-low range limits, re‑verify reading and record such fact when reading is outside range. Break seal on demand meter, reset indicator, and reseals meter.

Observe and record: unusual consumption, consumption on locked meters, excessive demand, irregular wiring, damaged or hazardous metering facilities, flat connections or diversions, unrecorded meters, missing seals, and other unusual or irregular conditions. Reseal any unsealed meter where meter is accessible. Detect accounts which are not in proper reading order and indicate proper location of new or existing accounts in the reading sequence. Submit daily report of conditions noted above.

If access cannot be gained, leave designated form. Observe consumption on meters where no customer has made application and leave designated form.

May provide routine information such as billing period or where payments may be made to customers contacted while reading meters. Refer customers to appropriate personnel for other than routine information.

Report any special requests made by customers for follow-up by other personnel.

Occasionally perform duties of Field Representative and Customer Service Clerks as necessary.

Occasionally assist in preparing and adjusting meter reading schedules.

Other Responsibilities

Perform similar and incidental duties as required.

Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

Basic Qualifications

Must pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Support & Administrative Selection System (SASS).

Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.

Must pass the SRA Oral & Written Directions Test.

Must be physically qualified to walk a meter route and lift a six-foot ladder.
