SR. LIFT MASTER (STARSHIP) The Sr. Lift Master supports SpaceX's Starship program by providing direct oversight for pad and infrastructure builds, advising on heavy equipment procurement strategies, developing lift plans, and acting as lift director for critical operations to ensure efficient and safe lifting capabilities. They also lead training for operators, monitor contractor performance, conduct safety briefings and audits, and drive continuous improvements in operations to foster a safety‑first culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct support for Starship pad and infrastructure build
Support the overall leadership team with inputs for strategic planning for efficient critical lifting operations
Advise SpaceX asset procurement strategy for heavy equipment to ensure the required capability and capacity are available based on the required work scope per site
Support overall leadership team on hiring and developing talent for heavy equipment operators, including the execution of operator training on requests
Write and implement lift plans and critical lifts plans as well as act as lift manager for heavy crane lifts, when required.
Perform signatory duties for Lift Director or Competent Person on a Critical Lift Form
Monitor and improve operations, ensuring a safe work environment – with the goal of zero OSHA recordables annually. Conduct regular safety walks, address safety issues, and promote safety policies
Oversee safety briefings prior to performing critical/high consequence operations and support safety first culture.
Recommend and support routine and non‑routine audits of crane operations by EHS across the launch organization
Review/approve proposals and manage crane POs
Develop Contract Labor strategy and monitor contractor performance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalency certificate
5+ years of experience as a lift director
10+ years of experience as a certified advanced rigger
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Industry leader in crane operations, rigging equipment and their applications
Experience with equipment and direct labor contract negotiation
Experience leading safety briefings for critical/high consequence operations
Experience with preventative maintenance of equipment as well as equipment installations
Experience with continuous process improvement and implementation of new methods for creating improved efficiencies in business operations highly preferred
Ability to calculate and determine appropriate lifting equipment and write lift plans
Strong working knowledge of lifting signals and communications
Strong working knowledge of operating and inspecting heavy equipment
Organized and self‑driven capable of working independently with little direction
Demonstrate innovative and futuristic thinking to drive continuous improvement
Able to multi‑task and be detail oriented while also working within time constraints and deadlines
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX locations when requested
Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed; flexibility is required
Willing to respond to emergencies to support priority projects, missions, and launches
Stand: Up to 10 hours per day
Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
Push/Pull: Up to 75lbs. (unassisted) 1‑2 hours per day
Overhead reach: Up to 6 hours per day
Walk: Up to 10 hours per day
Lift/Carry: Up to 50lbs. (unassisted) 1‑2 hours per day
Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 6 hours per day
Kneel/Crouch: Up to 6 hours per day
Upper body twist: Up to 6 hours per day
Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees: up to 3 hours per day
Candidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, using an air purifying respirator, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description.
