Purpose:

The Austin Signal from KUT News seeks a Producer to create original segments for the station’s daily news broadcast and podcast. In this in‑person position based at KUT Public Media, you will research, pitch, and produce timely stories, coordinate guests, write questions, edit taped interviews, and help package the segment for air. You will also occasionally direct the show and ensure all audio meets KUT standards.

Responsibilities

Participate in editorial meetings and assist with scheduling, segment production, writing, pre‑interviewing, editing, copying, and distributing scripts and schedules.

Book, produce, and edit taped interview segments; incorporate diverse perspectives and voices.

Produce the podcast version of the program and web posts, working with the KUT News digital team to develop innovative online content.

Fill in for the managing producer to direct the show, approve audio elements, set the rundown, and prepare for the next broadcast.

Ensure consistent communication among the Austin Signal team and partners such as the Texas Newsroom; cover live events as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.

At least 5 years of professional experience producing or reporting for a news organization.

Strong verbal, written, and editing skills, and excellent attention to detail under pressure.

Solid news judgment and familiarity with AP style.

Knowledge of content management systems and publishing to web and social media platforms.

Experience with audio editing; knowledge of Adobe Audition and Creative Suite is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience producing and editing audio, photo, and video content.

Experience in a public radio newsroom.

Proficiency with an audio board and hosting live radio.

Spanish language skills.
