The Staff Psychologist provides direct counseling services to enrolled University students, outreach and consultation services to members of the University community, and training to students in the mental health professions as needed. Additional Department Summary
Works with people in distress and encounters life‑threatening emergencies. Adheres to all policies and procedures as contained in the Counseling Center Policy and Procedure Manual. Follows Quality Improvement standards. Assists all constituencies within the scope of the Counseling Center mission. Completes required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace, and safer work environment. Holds staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures. Required Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and three (3) years of mental health experience. Psychologist License in the State of Alabama in good standing; OR licensed in another state and licensure eligible in Alabama with the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire if coming from another state or province. Skills and Knowledge
Excellent human relations, advocacy, and mental health intervention skills. Excellent time and task management skills, including the use or departmental resources to stay up to date on customer needs. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent judgment, problem solving, and a thorough knowledge of the myriad factors behind the resolution of psychological problems. Ability to work with various groups of people. Demonstrated use of sound judgment and competence in managing critical incidents and communications with others. Basic computer skills such as word processing and email. Ability to effectively interact with University community members for the purpose of program development. Demonstrated commitment to supporting all students. Demonstrated exemplary attitude and performance in the areas of teamwork. Preferred Qualifications
