Job Title: Production Operator Classification: Hourly, Non‑Exempt Reports To: Production Supervisor Department: Production

Job Summary This position serves as an operator with the goal of safely, effectively, and efficiently meeting or exceeding all manufacturing and quality standards. Primary responsibilities include operating the production line, maintaining set production standards, ensuring product quality, and assisting the Assistant Operator and/or the Production Utility Worker as needed.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Set up and operate the production line for various products, meeting or exceeding production rates, meeting customer specifications, and minimizing waste.

Assist Assistant Operator in operating Powered Industrial Vehicles to stage product, ensuring production supplies/materials are available to minimize downtime for the current and following shift.

Set up and adjust machinery, operate core cutting machine and pallet jack, and separate scrap into appropriate film‑type gaylord.

Utilize effective leadership skills to direct the Assistant Operator and/or Production Utility Worker when applicable.

Perform minor maintenance such as cleaning air filters and participating in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Preventative Maintenance (PM) programs.

Keep work areas clean, organize tools/equipment, and assist with housekeeping to maintain a safe environment.

Ensure all product is properly packaged (sawed, bagged, and tied) and assist with packaging and stacking when required.

Comply with safety regulations, use required PPE, and attend safety training. Report hazardous conditions to the Lead, Operations Supervisor, or Plant Manager immediately.

Report accidents, incidents, or near misses to the Team Lead, Supervisor, Manager, or Plant Manager.

Conduct all required quality checks, including product dimensions, color, weight, slits, perforations, widths, and lengths.

Physically and visually inspect all products, enter production/quality data accurately, and sign off on quality compliance.

Report quality defects promptly and assist the Maintenance Team with troubleshooting.

Maintain good employee relations, adhere to company policies, and refer employee relations issues to leadership as appropriate.

Train or mentor Assistant Operator and/or Production Utility Worker when needed.

May be assigned to different production lines and areas as required by company demand.

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Competency (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

Prior manufacturing or similar experience required.

Strong mechanical aptitude required.

Good mathematical skills required.

Ability to operate a forklift and other power industrial vehicles safely.

Ability to accept coaching and communicate respectfully, fostering a positive teamwork culture.

Proficiency in reading a tape measure and documenting quality readings.

Effective communication with team members, including shift transitions.

Knowledgeable about safety requirements and guidelines in manufacturing/warehouse environments.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, follow standardized work instructions, and adhere to safe practices.

Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or ability to learn quickly.

Environment

Non‑air‑conditioned indoor environment; heat may exceed 90°F.

Humidity may exceed 80%.

Noise may exceed 85 dB.

Work involves exposure to manufacturing machinery and moving equipment.

Physical Characteristics

Frequent standing up to 12 hours, occasionally more.

Walking, stooping, squatting up to 75% of time.

Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.

Frequent reaching, bending, twisting.

Occasional stair or ladder climbing.

Repetitive use of shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, elbows, wrists, hands, and fingers.

Position Type

Full time, hourly, non‑exempt.

Shift work: 2‑week rotating shifts, 12‑hour shifts on rotations and 6 hours each Wednesday.

Overtime per business demand.

Education And Experience

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.

Previous experience in a manufacturing and/or warehouse environment preferred.

Stable work history required.
