Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville—part of the
Innovetive Petcare network —is seeking a
highly skilled, compassionate LVT
to join our
Oncology department . This role is ideal for technicians who value
continuity of care, advanced diagnostics, client education, and meaningful patient relationships
while practicing at the
top of their license .
Work directly with
board-certified Oncology specialists
Manage advanced cancer diagnostics and treatment protocols
Build long-term relationships with patients and families
Specialty-focused role with
clear VTS (Oncology/ECC) growth pathways
Culture centered on

Full-Time Schedule
Specialty daytime hours (schedule details discussed during interview)
No overnight or on-call requirements
Key Responsibilities – Oncology & Specialty Care
Assist with oncology diagnostics and staging procedures
Prepare, calculate, and administer
chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments
in accordance with safety protocols
Monitor patients during and after chemotherapy infusions
Support advanced diagnostics including imaging, biopsies, and cytology
Provide advanced nursing care for oncology patients, including pain management and supportive therapies
Monitor and document patient response to treatments
Administer IV fluids, medications, and therapeutic treatments
Educate clients on chemotherapy protocols, side effects, home care, and follow-up schedules
Provide compassionate support to families navigating complex medical decisions
Partner with veterinarians to ensure clear, empathetic communication throughout treatment plans
Collaborate with Oncology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and ER teams
Participate in case rounds and specialty consultations
Maintain detailed and accurate medical records
Maintain chemotherapy safety standards and PPE protocols
Manage and maintain oncology-specific equipment and treatment areas
Qualifications & Experience
Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)
in Tennessee or eligible for licensure
2–3+ years of specialty, Internal Medicine, or Emergency experience
Strong technical proficiency in:
IV catheter placement and advanced nursing care
Patient monitoring and medication administration
Diagnostic sample collection and processing
Exceptional communication skills and emotional intelligence
Prior experience in
Oncology or chemotherapy administration
VTS (Oncology or ECC)
or actively pursuing certification
Experience supporting long-term specialty case management
Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of chemotherapy agents, handling protocols, and safety standards
Strong understanding of pain management and palliative care principles
Ability to manage emotionally complex cases with empathy and professionalism
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
Ability to lift up to
40 pounds
Emotional resilience and comfort supporting clients through end-of-life care when needed
