Position Overview
Product Development Specialist

Competitive pay based on education and experience, with shift differential. Pay adjusts for educational and experiential advancement.
Saturday & Sunday & 3 days during the week.
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The Research & Development Product Development Specialist is a skilled blood component manufacturing technician who assists the Director and Associate Scientist with optimization and manufacture of new blood products. The Specialist applies component manufacturing expertise to scale laboratory procedures into product manufacturing procedures. Upon full development, the Specialist transitions to Cytogrowth Solutions (CGS) to manufacture those products for clients and distribution partners. The Specialist also collaborates with OBI staff to access required blood products and conduct required testing.
Responsibilities
Manufacture platelet poor and platelet rich plasma components on all plasma units imported into the R&D Department/CytoGrowth Solutions (CGS).
Assist with the optimization of Universal Serum product (as R&D member).
Manufacture Universal Serum product for clients and distribution partners (as CGS employee).
Assist with the optimization of pooled fibronectin concentrate product (as R&D member).
Manufacture pooled fibronectin concentrate product for clients and distribution partners (as CGS employee).
Assist with the optimization of pooled feeder cell product (as R&D member).
Assist with the development of new blood and cell culture support products (R&D).
Assist with inventory management of blood components and final manufacturing lots (R&D/CGS).
Document results of product development efforts (R&D/CGS).
Perform sterility testing on manufactured product lots (R&D/CGS).
Perform instrument quality control and maintenance as needed (R&D/CGS).
Work with members of R&D and other departments to obtain needed blood components and equipment for product development and manufacture (R&D/CGS).
Stay current on all training required to operate equipment and perform component manufacturing procedures at OBI.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
2+ years experience in blood product component manufacturing.
Experience with SafeTrace and MasterControl software.
Experience working with human blood, blood products, and tissue.
Good attention to detail.
Strong ability to focus.
Self‑motivated.
Trustworthy.
Good organizational skills.
Good communication skills.
Works well with others.
Good manual dexterity.
Knowledge of computers and use of Windows programs.
Able to stand, sit, or walk for long periods.
Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of any data or test results.
