Senior Commodity Buyer – Electronics
SL Tennessee is seeking an experienced Senior Commodity Buyer – Electronics to support and lead purchasing activities within our automotive manufacturing operations. This role is critical to supplier development, cost management, and successful new program launches.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support commodity purchasing activities for multiple suppliers and development programs
Develop and execute commodity strategies focused on supplier improvement and cost optimization
Create and maintain electronic commodity cost models
Lead supplier launch activities including MRD, validation, launch readiness, and overall program timing
Evaluate and report product cost changes from sourcing through initial production
Drive supplier VA/VE initiatives and identify cost-reduction opportunities
Audit supplier processes for lean manufacturing and efficiency improvements
Lead cross‑functional teams and suppliers during development phases
Issue RFQs based on sales and program requirements
Review and recommend sourcing strategies for new and existing programs
Maintain documentation in compliance with TS16949, NAFTA, and customer‑specific requirements
Manage tooling and development cost documentation for outsourced products
Qualifications
5–6 years of experience in automotive purchasing or materials management
Prior experience in an automotive manufacturing environment preferred
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
Strong understanding of electronic components and product structures
Advanced data analysis and cost modeling skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MRP systems
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills
