Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for onboarding, developing, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of all drivers and helpers assigned to them. The ideal candidate will have experience with coaching and mentoring employees, understand transportation and logistics, and 3+ years of experience in people management overseeing a staff of 23-25 employees. Experience in managing union employees and DOT regulated drivers is preferred. The schedule is Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to close. Operations Managers should be flexible to work either opening or closing shifts and weekends after a holiday to support the operational needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensuring new frontline employees have tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties
Meeting with new frontline employees daily to ensure consistent communication and support of onboarding
Providing timely and consistent touchpoints with frontline employees
Regularly reviewing best practices to enhance daily performance
Focusing on understanding and progress of frontline employee career goals
Identifying and addressing improvement opportunities and collaborating with frontline employees to ensure continued success
Actively practicing and seeking feedback on coaching conversations
Leading by example to ensure safety practices are paramount with each employee
Teaching and developing an understanding of the WM Way
Conducting root‑cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining
Documenting and maintaining records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation
Reviewing and auditing documentation related to route operations daily (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following up where appropriate
Visiting customer and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate
Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
Associate's Degree (accredited) or equivalently two (2) years of relevant work experience
High School Diploma (accredited)
Must be at least 18 years of age
Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
Valid Driver's License
B. Preferred Qualifications
Successful completion of the WM Operations Manager Trainee program

Compensation and Benefits The expected base pay range for this office/on-site position is $80,000 to $85,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive pay.
