Production/Telephony Engineer

Hybrid Role

This is a hybrid role that requires candidates to be able to go on-site 2-3 days per week in Menlo Park, California. For this position, we are not able to accommodate C2C or visa sponsorship (now or in the future).

Description

Our client’s Enterprise Engineering team is seeking a Production Engineer (Level 5 or 6) to serve as the right hand to their Chief Telephony Officer. This role is pivotal in supporting the modernization and reliability of their global telephony infrastructure, including the flagship voice project. You will work closely with the CTO and the Solutions Engineering team to ensure the office phone systems and telephony services are secure, scalable, and operationally excellent.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in enterprise telephony, production engineering, or related fields.
  • Hands‑on expertise with VoIP, SIP, Asterisk, Cisco, AWS, and telephony APIs.
  • Experience supporting large‑scale, global infrastructure in a high‑availability environment.
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (Python, Bash, etc.).
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and project management abilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Voice

  • Basic understanding of, and able to troubleshoot, the SIP protocol.
  • Comfortable with Asterisk, the open‑source IP/PBX.
  • Some experience with CUCM.
  • Working knowledge of CVOICE concepts.
  • Ability to maintain IOS‑based voice gateways, including analog, ISDN, and SIP (CUBE and non‑CUBE).
  • Basic understanding of IVRs and ACDs.
  • Able to work with carriers to troubleshoot trunking issues.
  • Basic understanding of PSTN‑related regional regulatory considerations.
  • Bonus: Experience with Cisco VCS.
  • Bonus: Some understanding of WebRTC clients.

Networking

  • Basic understanding of route/switch as it applies to telephony.
  • Basic understanding of IPv6 (both dual‑stack voice and single‑stack v6).
  • Basic understanding of Cisco IOS.
  • Basic understanding of network security, including ACLs.
  • Comfortable managing networking within a CentOS / RHEL environment.
  • Bonus: Security‑focused mindset.

Linux

  • Good understanding of Bash and Shell scripts.
  • Able to understand and build basic SQL queries.
  • Able to build and maintain Python scripts.
  • Bonus: Experience with fleet management suites such as Chef or Puppet.
  • Bonus: Experience with AWS EC2 and AWS’s database offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with CTO to lead and execute CorpVoice and other telephony modernization projects.
  • Own operational reliability for telephony infrastructure, including monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
  • Drive technical improvements, automation, and documentation for telephony systems.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (network, security, facilities, vendors) to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support regulatory compliance, security reviews, and business continuity planning.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of operational excellence.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90.00 – $110.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
