Job Description: Safety Manager (Plant Safety Manager)

SUMMARY

Responsible for all company safety programming and training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee and develop company safety programs.
  • Investigate incidents and monitor medical care.
  • Lead safety inspections, meetings, and training programs.
  • Create and conduct new-hire safety programs.
  • Assist HR in hiring and interviewing production personnel related to safety.
  • Monitor light duty programs: develop jobs, communicate with physicians, etc.
  • Complete and maintain paperwork related to work-related incidents.
  • Assist in filing workers' compensation insurance information and obtaining quotes.
  • Assist in purchasing safety equipment and systems.
  • Maintain memberships in safety or environmental associations to stay informed of trends.
  • Prepare legal notices, postings, and reports as required by authorities.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • College degree required.
  • Clear communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Preferred: BS degree in Safety/Environmental field and experience in safety/environmental roles.
SKILLS
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Effective communication with customers, employees, and officials.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, percentages, and volumes.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret instructions.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Knowledge of product and machinery specifications.
  • Computer data entry skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regular walking, talking, hearing.
  • Frequent standing, handling, reaching.
  • Occasional sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual requirements include various types of vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Exposure to humid conditions, moving parts, fumes, loud noise.
