Job Summary:
The Automation Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing automated equipment and control systems within a manufacturing or industrial environment. This individual will work with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and various types of actuators and control devices to ensure machinery operates efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a hands-on approach to equipment maintenance and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install and wire automation equipment, sensors, and control systems in accordance with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical automation systems.
  • Modify and update PLC logic and HMI screens under engineering supervision or independently, depending on experience.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support system upgrades and new equipment commissioning.
  • Document service and repair work in maintenance logs and update electrical schematics as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Automation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial automation or maintenance technician role.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other major PLC/HMI platforms.
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics, ladder logic, pneumatics, and control wiring.
  • Familiarity with motor controls, sensors, safety circuits, and industrial robotics is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in food & beverage, packaging, material handling, or OEM equipment support.
  • Ability to travel for field installations, startups, or service calls (if required by employer).
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, and general industrial safety standards.
