American Indian Education Teacher Position Overview The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:
All students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control;
In the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students;
In the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence and student success; and
In meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success
Position Purpose The purpose of this role is to support student learning by reinforcing instruction, assisting with classroom management, and providing individualized support to help students succeed. This position also ensures a safe and inclusive environment while supporting teachers and school staff. This position is considered exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Primary Responsibilities Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
Instructional Support Assist and guide students in reinforcing reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning and implement assigned programs.
Support teachers in administering and grading classroom exercises, tests, and assessments.
Help prepare instructional materials and adapt strategies to meet individual student needs.
Classroom and Student Support Maintain accurate records to document student learning and performance.
Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe, structured learning environment.
Supervise students in non-instructional settings such as lunch programs, bus duty, playground, hallways, and study hall.
Accompany students on field trips, providing supervision and support.
Special Education and Inclusion Support Assist students with special needs in classroom instruction, inclusion activities, and achieving Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives.
Participate in the IEP process and serve as a resource for student evaluation teams.
Provide support for students with physical or mental disabilities in activities of daily living to enhance their participation in school and learning.
Follow all applicable safety procedures and regulations when assisting students with disabilities or special needs.
Parent and Community Engagement Assist teachers with parent communication to foster active participation in student education.
Administrative and Operational Support Prepare, copy, and distribute educational materials as needed.
Support guidance counselors, pupil services staff, or building administrators as required.
Use standard office equipment, including personal computers and copiers.
Travel between schools or central offices may be required for certain positions.

Preferences We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm for working with students. Previous experience working with special needs children is preferred. Preferred candidates will also have a high school diploma or higher along with successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by the No Child Left Behind Act. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of: Family dynamics
Ability to: Work with young children and supervising group activities
Plan and organize work
Self-motivate and work individually or in a group setting
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications The successful candidate must have earned a high school degree . Additional demonstrated qualifications include: commitment to the equitable education of all students, creative planning and organizational skills, and highly effective interpersonal skills.
Licensing Requirements No licensure is required for this position.
Salary and Benefits The starting pay for this position $166.00/day for the first 30 days and then $264.47 – $300.43/day after 30 days with retro back to first day and will be prorated to reflect the length of the long-term substitute position. Compensation is based on the Cloquet Public Schools Teachers’ Master Agreement . Your initial placement is dependent on your qualifications (education and years of relevant experience).
