As a Lead Student Nutrition team member, you will play a critical role in ensuring high-quality meal service while supporting and guiding staff during daily food service operations. In addition to preparing and serving nutritious meals, you will help coordinate workflows, model best practices, and ensure safety, sanitation, and nutrition standards are consistently met. Your leadership supports a smooth, welcoming meal experience that helps students feel cared for, energized, and ready to learn—advancing San José Unified’s mission to provide every student with the foundation for success. You take pride in maintaining safety, cleanliness, and efficiency, and you communicate clearly and respectfully with coworkers, supervisors, and site staff. You understand that your leadership directly impacts student health, staff morale, and daily operational success.
Responsibilities
Preparing and serving nutritious meals in accordance with district menus, portion standards, and nutrition guidelines.
Supporting daily workflow by assisting with task assignments and ensuring meal service stays on schedule.
Modeling and reinforcing safe food handling, sanitation, and storage procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Assisting with setup, breakdown, and cleaning of food service areas and equipment before, during, and after meal service.
Receiving, organizing, rotating, and monitoring inventory to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
Safely operating kitchen equipment, including ovens, warmers, dishwashers, and other food service equipment.
Recording meal counts and assisting with required documentation and reports.
Providing friendly, professional customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
Communicating equipment, supply, or safety concerns to supervisors and assisting with resolution.
Collaborating with site staff and team members to ensure consistent, high-quality service.
Qualifications
Completion of 12th grade, or any combination of education, experience, and training which is equivalent.

0.875 FTE - 35hrs./week
6:30am - 2:00pm
