Position Summary The Senior Project Engineer is a senior technical leader within the Precision Stamping Group, responsible for executing complex tooling, process, and equipment projects that support high-volume metal stamping operations. This role partners closely with manufacturing, quality, tooling, and supply chain teams to launch new programs, improve existing processes, and ensure stamped components meet demanding customer, quality, and cost requirements.
Key Responsibilities Program & Project Leadership
Lead precision stamping projects from quotation handoff through production launch.
Develop project schedules, resource plans, and capital budgets for tooling, presses, and secondary operations.
Track deliverables, manage risks, and ensure programs meet customer timelines and internal milestones.
Stamping Process & Tooling Oversight
Provide technical direction for progressive dies, transfer dies, and related tooling.
Support die design reviews, tryouts, debug activities, and production readiness.
Partner with tooling suppliers and internal toolrooms to ensure robust, repeatable die performance.
Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with manufacturing engineering, quality, maintenance, and operations to ensure smooth launches.
Serve as a technical liaison between customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
Mentor junior engineers on stamping processes, tooling fundamentals, and problem-solving techniques.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Ensure stamped products meet dimensional, material, and cosmetic requirements.
Support APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and control plan development for new and existing programs.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, uptime, throughput, and cost.
Safety & Cost Control
Promote safe stamping and die-handling practices throughout project execution.
Manage project costs, identify savings opportunities, and support capital justification efforts.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience
7–10 years of engineering experience in a precision metal stamping environment.
Demonstrated success supporting high-volume, tight-tolerance stamped components.
Technical Expertise
Strong understanding of stamping processes, press operations, and die construction.
Experience with progressive and/or transfer dies.
Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection methods.
Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design tools; project management software experience preferred.
Leadership & Communication Skills
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
Strong communication skills when working with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple programs concurrently.
Preferred Credentials
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
PMP or formal project management training.
