Purpose The position originates in the constructive and pre-operational stage of the Terminal, evolving in functions and responsibilities until the present day, where it is in charge of executing crucial tasks in the day-to-day operational life of the legal department and the Terminal.
The purpose of this position is to support the legal team on all issues relating to day-to-day operations. The scope of the job encompasses all legal matters relating to public law, maritime law, civil law, criminal law, commercial law, labour law, insurance law, as well as issues related to real estate, customs and other areas.
Principal Accountabilities This role will be responsible for the following tasks:
Managing communications and monitoring the contractual compliance of suppliers, including the notification of applicable contractual sanctions.
Monitoring the administrative processes of receiving, reviewing and approving invoices in the designated tool for the legal department.
Validating the inclusion and compliance of business policies in service contracts in conjunction with the procurement department and category owners.
Assisting the legal team on all issues relating to local legislation across all areas and required regulatory requirements from various local bodies.
Conducting research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles.
Conducting investigations and statistical/documentary research.
Providing administrative support to the legal area to enhance office effectiveness.
Gathering and arranging documents for the attorney to review in preparation for administrative hearings, court dates or trials.
Assisting by handling exhibits, taking notes, or reviewing trial transcripts.
Drafting and reviewing legal correspondence, official company notes, and other legal documents.
Drafting, advising, reviewing, and negotiating on customer and procurement contracting requirements for any department of the Company.
Obtaining affidavits and other formal statements that may be needed.
Conducting research, follow-ups, and reports on specific assignments as requested by Legal Management.
Claims Handling: Assisting with the review, assignment, and investigation of received claims, and drafting required notifications and resolutions pertaining to the outcome of the claim procedures.
Complying with all other assignments related to the position as requested by the Legal Manager.
Working on corporate governance issues.
Advising the business regarding laws and regulations affecting commercial relationships.
Staying up-to-date with all changes in laws and regulatory issues applicable to the company to ensure its correct operation in accordance with the law.
Critical Qualifications
Familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and the court system.
Law degree and admission to the Colegio de Abogados.
3 to 5 years of experience in legal matters, preferably in public law, port sector, customs, administrative law, or transportation.
Satisfactory knowledge of day-to-day operations of a legal office.
Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to juggle multiple activities and work under pressure.
Ability to anticipate problems, manage prevention, recognize key issues, and create contingency plans and alternative solutions.
Sound judgment, results measurement, and corrective action when needed. Effective negotiation skills.
Excellent people skills, contributing to an environment of effective communication and respect.
