Key Job Responsibilities
Design, analyze, develop, and implement test equipment and infrastructure used in satellite flight hardware development and qualification.
Author, refine, and implement validation, verification, acceptance, and qualification test procedures.
Develop mechatronics-focused test automation and data acquisition.
Develop post-processing tools to decompose test data into desired metrics.
Lead and participate in design reviews and risk assessments to contribute to the continuous improvement of satellite hardware performance and reliability.
Work concurrently with design engineers to provide design for testability (DFT) feedback throughout the design process.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, systems, reliability, and quality engineers, to gather information, share findings, and develop solutions.
A Day in the Life As an Amazon Leo Sr. Test Development Engineer, you will own the design and implementation of automated test equipment used to validate satellite hardware designs from initial prototypes, through functional testing, and into pilot production. You will work with design and manufacturing teams to specify test equipment requirements, develop test plans, and execute test campaigns to support development and production test initiatives. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and comfortable operating in a fast-paced development environment.
About the Team This team is organized within the satellite mechanical design team to accelerate the design iteration process and ensure on-time delivery of the most stable and successful product possible. Tasks and daily focus change rapidly, and you will often take on new and exciting responsibilities as required to ensure project success. Expect to be deployed to complex problems and novel technical challenges that push you to develop new skills. You’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality, and cost.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field.
7+ years of experience developing test infrastructure to meet the needs of testing spacecraft or similarly complex systems.
5+ years of experience in design and validation of hardware systems, including use of CAD (Siemens NX or similar).
2+ years of experience automating hardware testing and data analysis using Python, LabVIEW, C++ or similar.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with integration and testing of satellite hardware.
Experience in development of test plans and protocols related to established Space Hardware test processes (GEVS / SMC-S-016 / MIL-STD-810).
Experience in Finite Element Analysis of primary and secondary structures/FEA capability – Ansys / NASTRAN (or equivalent).
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
