Job Description The staff accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
Responsibilities
Prepare operational data and ensure data integrity and accuracy including monthly general ledger reconciliations, monthly financial statements, bank reconciliations, journal entries and audit schedules, accrual schedules, cash transfer instructions, A/P vouchers.
Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close.
Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is required.
Ability to accept direction and developmental guidance from supervisor.
Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience
Knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems (Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT).
Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Knowledge of investment reporting and non-profit accounting and reporting preferred.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and analytical skills.
Ability to plan and organize work.
Strong judgment and problem-solving ability.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and accounting software.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting plus two to three years of experience in an entry-level to staff-level accounting position preferred.
