Position Description In this role, you’ll oversee the plant’s cost accounting and reporting activities, maintain accurate standards, analyze variances, and provide actionable insights to management. You’ll collaborate across departments to strengthen cost control, improve margins, and support environmental and sustainability initiatives. You’ll be trusted as a financial leader on site—one who can connect operational realities with financial results.

Maintain, monitor, and enhance the plant’s cost structure and reporting accuracy.

Analyze manufacturing performance, material usage, and labor costs to identify efficiencies and improvement opportunities.

Reconcile inventory and production accounts, ensuring alignment between operational data and financial statements.

Prepare journal entries, assist with month-end and year-end closings, and support audits with detailed documentation.

Provide meaningful analysis of product profitability, waste, and cost trends.

Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to drive financial awareness and improve overall performance.

Partner with environmental and safety colleagues to compile sustainability and compliance metrics such as waste reduction, energy usage, and recycling performance.

Track and report costs tied to environmental initiatives and efficiency programs.

Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and standard cost reviews while ensuring adherence to accounting standards and internal policies.

Mentor junior team members and champion continuous improvement throughout the plant.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA or CMA an asset).

Minimum 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience within a process-driven or production sector is an advantage.

Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, financial reporting, and GAAP compliance.

Solid ERP experience with advanced Excel and data analysis capability.

Exposure to environmental or sustainability reporting considered a plus.

Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts or continuous improvement initiatives is beneficial.
