Job Description The Nebraska Public Service Commission is an agency of thoughtful professionals committed to advocating for the public we serve and the industries we regulate. Created in 1885, the Commission regulates several public industries, including telecommunications, natural gas, transportation, grain warehouses and dealers, and modular housing and recreational vehicles.

We are seeking a self‑motivated Law Clerk to join our Legal Team. Under direct supervision, the Law Clerk will assist agency attorneys with legal research, analysis, and writing in areas of administrative law, civil procedure, and public utility regulation. There will also be opportunities to observe hearings, public meetings, and other events.

A successful candidate will have strong research and writing skills and an interest in the Commission’s areas of regulation, litigation, administrative law and/or public interest law.

Responsibilities

Conduct legal research for agency attorneys.

Analyze federal and state laws related to administrative law, civil procedure, and public utility regulation.

Assist in drafting and proofreading legal documents and/or correspondence such as Commission Orders, memorandums, agreements, regulations, subpoenas, motions, and discovery.

Represent the agency in administrative hearings under supervision of a licensed attorney pursuant to Certified Senior Law Student rule, if eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment at a law school approved by the American Bar Association and completion or pending completion of one year of law school. Open to 2L or 3L students.

Knowledge of legal research methods and case analysis.

Skill in legal research and writing, legal analysis, document drafting.

Ability to analyze and interpret statutes and agency rules and regulations; draft legal documents such as Commission orders and legal memoranda.
