Successful candidates will temporarily be located at a solar site within the region. Permanent work locations will be at Nova Solar (near Cocoa, FL), Wewahotee Solar (near Cocoa, FL), and Bull Creek Solar (near Cocoa, FL). Once the sites are commissioned, incumbents will be transferred to their permanent work locations.
Job Summary The Renewables Tech is responsible for providing support to multiple PV plant sites throughout Duke Energy Florida’s service territory on a continual/on-demand basis. Tasks include troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues, emergency repairs, design change requirements, equipment modifications, and establishing O&M support for new plant start-up and long‑term operation. Role includes work scheduling, maintenance, equipment installation, and start‑up support. The position also supports existing equipment performance and reliability, works on equipment testing schedules, assigns contracts, technicians, and engineers to tasks, and develops processes to improve O&M output quality.
Responsibilities and Duties
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues
Address design change requirements and equipment modifications
Schedule maintenance, installation, and start‑up support
Support existing equipment performance and reliability
Support equipment testing schedules and assign contract testers, technicians, and engineers while improving O&M output quality
Ensure compliance with operational, environmental, regulatory, and policy requirements; monitor station environmental, health, and safety objectives
Provide leadership and accountability to achieve safety results (Lock Out Tag Out compliance, safety meeting attendance, contractor oversight, safety policies/procedures, and work practices)
Basic / Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
0–1 year of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or technical certification/training in the electrical field with at least one year of experience, preferably in a power plant or related industry
Two years of technical or military training in electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems
Working knowledge of power distribution systems
Experience with inverters, electrical design, Maximo CMMS, centralized SCADA/EMS control systems, and associated network devices
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code
Five or more years of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience
Working Conditions
Field mobility: work will be performed in various field locations; employees must live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned site
Must be able to work 12‑hour rotating shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends, and maintain flexibility as plant conditions require
Must wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, steel‑toed safety shoes, safety glasses, and arc‑flash protective gear
Must work around rotating equipment, in extreme heat/cold, and electromagnetic fields; must be able to climb, crawl, kneel, stand, sit, and walk
Must live within one hour of a site under their responsibility
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must work in high temperatures and direct sunlight
Travel and overnight trips are likely
Specific Requirements
Successful completion of the MASS test
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
Position contains a weight restriction of 275 lbs as an essential function of the job
Travel Requirements 5–15 %
Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes
