Job description
Overview We are seeking a full‑time Manager, Quality in our Miramar, FL location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team that drives activities to ensure and improve the quality and reliability of Garmin’s parts, products, processes, and systems throughout all phases of the product life cycle.
Essential Functions
Conduct regular reviews of supplier / customer quality data and communicate with suppliers / customers on feedback and plans for improvement, including external / internal measurements, corrective actions, and implementation of improvement processes and programs.
Manage the analysis and utilization of data and information from part / product inspection, sales / return data, and Product Support to improve part / product and processes across the various Garmin sites.
Work with Design Engineering to fulfill customer contractual requirements related to quality (e.g., PPAP, FMEA, capability studies, gage studies) and participate in ECO reviews.
Manage advanced statistical analysis to support operations, manufacturing, engineering, supplier, and customer requirements.
Provide expertise and training for continuous improvement methodologies, problem‑solving methodologies, statistical techniques, and quality tools.
Support supplier improvements by collaborating with Global Supply Chain and supporting MRB procedures and processes, including measurements to track and communicate quality data.
Coordinate team efforts and communicate with multiple Garmin facilities regarding root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
Ensure the organization’s processes and procedures are aligned with certification and approval organizations such as ISO9001, AS9000, FAA, IATF14969, and customer‑specific requirements.
Support the internal audit process to ensure quality system compliance and provide feedback to management regarding opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with Design Engineering, Process Engineering, Reliability, Materials/Purchasing, Customer Repair, and Manufacturing to introduce new products into manufacturing.
Champion lessons learned and industry‑standard practices at design reviews.
Analyze and/or develop product/process quality plans and maintain lessons‑learned appendices to design‑for‑manufacturability guidelines.
Champion activities to maximize reliability of both new and existing products, including designing and conducting experiments to measure product life and reliability.
Assist in developing and applying reliability testing strategies such as HALT and HASS.
Recommend design or process improvements to enhance reliability.
Measure and maintain field reliability data and communicate results.
Identify and implement process and design improvements to continuously improve yield and product quality.
Analyze process performance and implement methods to reduce process variation.
Design experiments to improve supplier material and production processes.
Perform failure‑analysis investigations to determine root causes of product failures.
Review and analyze production, quality, maintenance, and operational data to identify nonconformities and production problems.
Develop and lead Garmin quality program initiatives involving applications, certifications, and compliance audits.
Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; and appraise performance.
Set the tone for the team environment and build healthy working relationships.
Lead the development of team members with diverse capability levels.
Create, implement, and deliver training programs to support quality initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field AND a minimum of 10 years’ experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
Technical mastery of continuous improvement tools such as DMAIC, PDCA, 5‑Why’s, statistical methods, and designed experiments.
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Proficiency in quality assurance tools, including Advance Product Quality Planning, FMEA, SPC, PPAP, and MSA.
Proficiency with ISO9001, IATF16949, and related quality certifications for consumer products.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Positive, detail‑oriented, organized, team‑oriented, driven problem solver; multi‑tasker; self‑starter capable of prioritizing and leading in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
High level of interpersonal skills to collaborate across functional and organizational lines.
Excellent project‑management skills with the ability to prioritize, organize, and multi‑task in a flexible, fast‑paced, challenging environment.
Financial experience, including cost‑benefit analysis and ROI calculations.
Previous quality experience in consumer electronics or automotive industries.
Desired Qualifications
ASQ Certification (CQE, CMQ/OE, or CSSBB).
Master’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
