Assistant Stylist
Join Ulta Beauty’s salon team as an Assistant Stylist. The role focuses on engaging guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. This temporary position strives to prepare talent for a stylist role, emphasizing guest experience, productivity, and adherence to service standards.

General Summary & Scope The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults on their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. Initially mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist for the first three months, the assistant focuses on performance, people, and process. From months four through six, the assistant begins servicing guests independently.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
Support mentor Stylist in meeting or exceeding sales and productivity goals for hair services and haircare products by providing add‑on recommendations, shampoo and treatment processes, blowouts, styling, color applications, and assisting with foils.
Assist with cleaning/sanitation and organizing duties, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations.
After month three, perform hair services including design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing where applicable.
Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest experience.
Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
Stay informed about new industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
Serve all guests, including walk‑in guests, in a timely and efficient manner under the mentorship of another stylist.
Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total‑store, well‑rounded guest experience.
Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships that foster collaboration and exceptional guest service.
Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
Process
Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services, adhering to state board guidelines.
Follow established service protocols to ensure a consistent and exceptional guest experience.
Utilize appropriate booking and clientele systems to book guests for return services and events.
Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
Maintain outstanding store operational standards, including cleanliness of salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any additional assigned area.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices while providing guest service.
Execute other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications Education
Cosmetology license.
Skills
Basic understanding of latest salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing services, and/or an aptitude to develop skills in all service categories.
Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals needed for technical work.
Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
Developed communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
Special Position Requirements
Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
Frequent mobility during shift.
Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting.
Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shift.
Ability to stand for long periods of time during shift.
Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office and cosmetology supplies.
