Job Overview
Working with the Director of Political Coverage and the Washington Bureau, the Digital Journalist / Polling and Data Analytics will report on and provide support in the areas of polling, elections, and data analytics for ABC News. The individual will need a reporting background and an understanding of polling and elections.
Responsibilities
Explore unique angles in storytelling in the polling space by writing compelling news stories using ABC News' polling data and polls conducted by outside sources.
Work with the Director of Polling as well as platform and beat leaders on poll design and execution.
Assist reporters and producers across the news division, as well as ABC's owned stations, in finding and utilizing polling data in their reporting.
Work with the Manager of Data Analytics to develop editorial content to support and enhance ABC News' coverage of public opinion and elections.
Analyze exit polls on election nights for reporting across ABC News' platforms.
Basic Qualifications
At least two years of reporting and polling experience.
An interest in public opinion research as it relates to news and storytelling.
Must be a strong communicator with the ability to translate polling and other empirical data into clear, engaging news stories including data visualizations.
Must have strong collaboration skills and have a demonstrated ability to work across various teams.
Must be well‑organized and able to handle multiple projects and news stories simultaneously.
Able to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment and consistently meet very tight deadlines.
Able to work at night and on weekends during election season and during breaking news events.
Have exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and high standards.
Must be able to approach your work with neutrality and fairness to all viewpoints.
Applicants must have US work authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a newsroom and/or television environment.
An understanding of statistical analysis and poll methodology.
Experience with statistical analysis and statistical software packages (e.g., R, SPSS, STATA).
Required Education
BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university.
Compensation The hiring range for this position in Washington, DC is $87,100 - $116,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
