Position Summary A manufacturing company is currently seeking an Assistant Controller for our office in The Woodlands, TX. We are open to a hybrid schedule for this role, including 3 days in the office and 2 days remote per week, with monthly site visits to New Iberia, LA. This role would be responsible for managing the accounting functions under the general direction of finance leadership, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures. Provides oversight and coordination of operating reports and statutory filings, establishes and maintains financial controls. The assistant controller assists in setting strategic directions for the accounting department, aligning department goals to help achieve its objectives.
Job Responsibilities
Assisting the controller in the direction of the accounting functions of an organization
Assisting the controller in ensuring timeliness and accuracy of the financial statements
Preparation of financial reports and overseeing their evaluation
Presenting the various accounting reports to the top management and making suitable observations and recommendation
Monitoring investment policies and operations of the company
Managing operational data and maintaining data accuracy and integrity
Audit work flow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Reviewing financial data periodically to ensure fairness and completeness of the data
Reviews and justifies the expense reports and other expenditures
Drive the preparation of monthly journal entries
Responsible for Project accounting including POC revenue recognition
Helps maintain accountability of the financial resources of the company
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements
Handles personally or supervises general ledger reconciliations
Assists Finance leadership with a variety of tasks as needed
Reviews monthly closing processes to prevent errors
Handles special projects as requested by management
Helps with preparation of the yearly audit
Helps maintain the internal control environment
Assists with safeguarding the assets of investors
Stays current on changes in regulations and other industry news
Job Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or similar CMA or CPA preferred
5 years of accounting experience (manufacturing accounting preferred)
2 years of Oracle’s JD Edwards experience
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints
Effective and persuasive presentation skills on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or board of directors
Displays vast knowledge of math and exceptional accounting skills
Possesses strong leadership, supervisory and management abilities
Has excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills
Exhibits strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant technology
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of financial software programs
Possesses exceptional organizational skills and is an effective time manager and multi-tasker
Displays the ability to pay close attention to detail
Demonstrates good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Has a working knowledge accepting accounting practices and financial accounting standards
Excellent Excel skills are needed and experience in an ERP financial implementation is a plus
