Position Summary The Spirituality, Culture, and Health (SCH) Program Coordinator will directly oversee the SCH program by managing faculty, staff and students across multi‑disciplinary UNMC colleges and departments and stakeholders external to UNMC—including tribal representatives, tribal and public school staff, educators, students and community members in Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana and Arizona—to develop, implement, and evaluate science curricula and research experiences aimed to promote student interest in the sciences, address Native American health disparities, and ultimately develop our regional and national workforce by increasing the number of Native Americans entering health professions and research careers. The position will build SCH program capacity by supervising student participants in research experiences and fostering communication, partnership, and bi‑directional knowledge sharing between the SCH program and all stakeholders. It will manage and disseminate all existing and new SCH program curriculum—including research, education and training and professional development opportunities—collaborating with local and national schools, tribes, academic institutions, organizations and other stakeholders. It will also oversee all program data management and evaluation, including managing data collection and dissemination with SCH staff, an external evaluator, internal and external stakeholders, Westat, the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, and other funders.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Care Administration, Health Promotion or a related field. (Will consider additional related post high school education in lieu of required experience.)
Experience:
Minimum 3 years in program coordination/development. (Will consider additional related post high school education in lieu of required experience.)
Computer Applications:
Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Knowledge of principles and methods of indigenous education.
Knowledge of health and human services systems.
Knowledge of American Indian local, state and national organizations.
Knowledge of public health functions as it relates to training and education.
Knowledge of arts‑based and Indigenous research methods.
Experience in urban and rural Native American Great Plains communities.
Knowledge of environmental health/justice.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Native American populations.
Experience working with public schools and out‑of‑school program organizations.
Minimum of one year of recent experience performing educational programming tasks with the urban Native American community.
Knowledge, understanding and respect for the values and beliefs of Native Americans.
Strong written and oral communication, excellent interpersonal communications and group facilitation skills.
Knowledge of Cancer Biology, Native American Health and Wellness, Cancer Prevention and Treatment, local and community social services, higher education.
