The Controller is charged with the responsibility to protect GSM’s financial stability by developing accounting systems that align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), analyzing financial performance, recognizing inconsistencies and actively managing areas requiring improvement.
General Stamping & Metalworks is a growing organization responding to an ever changing market. It is expected that tasks and requirements will change from time to time and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.
Organizational Relationships and Authority The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President. Direct reports to this position are likely to include:
Senior Accountant
Accounting Manager
Accounts Payable/ Accounts Receivable
Cost Accountant
Additional Responsibilities
Lead monthly/ quarterly close and consolidations; deliver timely, insight-rich financials and dashboards.
Drive variance analysis, forecast updates, and plant/segment profitability reviews.
Own standard/actual costing, cost roll-ups for routings/BOMs, and variance root cause.
Partner with Sales/Quoting on pricing, margins, and customer/product mix decisions.
Treasury (A/P, A/R, Cash)
Oversee A/P and A/R operations, credit & collections, and vender terms management.
Build a rolling cash forecast and manage daily liquidity needs.
Audit & Controls
Maintain a robust control environment; prepare and coordinate external audit and tax support.
Safeguard inventory accuracy (cycle counts), revenue recognition, and authorization workflows.
Manage, coach, and grow a five-person team (GL, Cost, A/P, A/R).
Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales; translating plant realities into P&L actions.
Job Demands and Expectations
Publish a clean, fast closure with reliable plant-level visibility (monthly and weekly KPI cadence).
Stand up a weekly margin bridge (price, mix, volume, cost) used by Operations, Sales, and Leadership.
Lock cost standards & variance cadence to drive actions on productivity, absorption, routings/BOMs, and labor.
Tighten working capital with crisp A/R, A/P and cast forecasting practices.
Own audit readiness and strengthen internal controls across inventory, revenue, and disbursement.
Develop a high-performing team with clear roles, SOPs and growth plans.
Qualifications and Competencies
CPA or equivalent is required
The individual must also be able to utilize current software applications (spreadsheet, database, and presentation) to analyze and present financial information in an effective manner. The ability to bring a process view and understanding to the accounting and business operations is essential to success in this role.
Additionally, to perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to produce coherent written documents that are free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, maintain an optimistic and supportive attitude, and maintain the strictest confidence regarding all issues and information regarding the company’s operations, its employee, financial matters, and personal matters of which the employee may become aware in the course of their work.

Experience The position requires a minimum of eight years of experience, including three years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. The individual must be knowledgeable of, and experienced in, the application of both general and managerial accounting concepts.
