Receiving Inspector (Manufacturing)
Job Title: Receiving Inspector

Reports to: Quality Manager
Job Summary The Receiving Inspector at Sun Test Systems, Inc. is responsible for performing incoming inspections of materials, components, and products received from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. This position supports the Quality Management System by verifying documentation, conducting visual, dimensional, and functional inspections, documenting results, and identifying nonconforming material. The Receiving Inspector works closely with Logistics, Purchasing, Engineering, and Quality to ensure only conforming material is released for production or shipment in accordance with company procedures.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities
Perform receiving inspections on all incoming materials, components, and supplies in accordance with STS procedures.
Verify purchase order requirements against received materials, including part number, revision level, quantity, and condition.
Review and verify required documentation, including Certificates of Conformance (CoC), certifications, test reports, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), as applicable.
Conduct visual inspections for damage, defects, contamination, or workmanship issues.
Perform dimensional inspections using calibrated measuring equipment to verify compliance with drawings and specifications.
Conduct functional testing and material verification when required by specification or inspection plan.
Apply sampling plans when applicable and document inspection results accurately.
Complete all required inspection documentation, including Incoming Inspection Reports and receiving records in the ERP system.
Identify, segregate, and label nonconforming material and initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) in accordance with QMS procedures.
Ensure nonconforming material is properly quarantined and controlled until disposition.
Coordinate with Quality, Purchasing, Engineering, and Warehouse personnel regarding inspection status and material disposition.
Support source inspection and customer incoming inspection activities when required.
Maintain inspection records and documentation in accordance with record retention requirements.
Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement activities related to receiving inspection and supplier quality.
Perform other duties as assigned to support Quality and Operations objectives.
Required Skills / Abilities
Must be a U.S. citizen or legal ability to work in the US and meet any other federal program requirements.
Experience with quality control techniques such as Six Sigma.
Experience with measuring devices such as meters, gauges, computers, calipers, and other measuring instruments.
Experience with operating a forklift.
Experience in US Army Quality functions.
Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
Knowledge of receiving inspection processes and quality control principles.
Proficiency with inspection and measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
Ability to accurately document inspection results and maintain detailed records.
Understanding of nonconformance identification, segregation, and reporting.
Familiarity with sampling plans and inspection methods.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift), or willingness to be trained.
Required Education and Experience
At least 4 years of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination.
Experience in engineering sectors with the federal government or DoD preferred.
Experience in aerospace, defense, or government-regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
Experience working within a Quality Management System (ISO 9001 / AS9100 preferred).
