Architect – AECOM
Location: Columbia, SC (also available for Greenville, SC; Charlotte, NC; or Charleston, SC)
Work model: Hybrid (office, remote, or client site as needed)
Compensation: $85,000 – $125,000 per year (based on experience and location)
Job Description As an Architect with growing technical expertise, you will work with interdisciplinary teams on mid‑ to large‑scale design‑driven projects across a variety of industries. Your work will involve creating and reviewing architectural drawings, specifications, reports, and related data tables while ensuring quality and compliance with project requirements. You will collaborate with professional staff on reports, studies, drawings, design narratives, and mentoring junior staff, and you may assist in developing new architectural methods and techniques.
Responsibilities
Perform architectural tasks, including specifications, reports, and related data tables
Execute specific and limited portions of broader assignments by experienced Architects
Prepare, review, and approve drawings as required
Conduct interdisciplinary review of project deliverables and identify discrepancies
Under the direction of a Supervising Architect, independently perform advanced technical assignments within approved schedules and budgets
Collaborate on reports, studies, drawings, and design narratives with professional staff
Assist in training and mentoring junior architectural and design/drafting personnel
Work in an office setting with meetings outside the office or site visits as needed
May assist in developing new architectural methods and techniques
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture; 4+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education/experience
Licensed as a Registered Architect (NCARB) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
U.S. citizenship required
Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam, PDF design software, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Strong writing and verbal communication skills; highly motivated self‑starter
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow‑through
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with technical teams
Desire for mentorship and leadership opportunities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam, or other PDF design software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Desire to be mentored by leadership and provide mentorship to junior staff
Highly motivated self‑starter with solid writing and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail; accuracy; follow‑through innate desire
Ability to work independently and with large groups of technical‑minded people
Passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative, progressive team‑oriented environment
