Position Information
This attorney will provide legal counsel and representation for the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, other elected officials, and various county agencies, departments, appointees and employees as assigned. This position will be assigned to the Transactional Group for the County Attorney's Office. Practice areas include local government contracting, procurement, construction, transportation, telecommunications, technology, real property transactions, and intergovernmental agreements.

Essential Functions Serves as legal counsel representing County interests for assigned departments; provides legal advice to department heads, elected officials, managers as requested or assigned under the direction of the County Attorney.
Negotiates, drafts, and reviews contracts; analyzes terms and conditions to ensure the County’s interests are protected against potential liability; resolves contract disputes; reviews contracts for compliance with internal policies, statutes, regulations and local, state, and federal laws; coordinates purchases and sales of County property, and drafts leases and easements in compliance with applicable laws and policies.
Develops and reviews legislation; drafts County ordinances and internal policies; provides advice and direction regarding pending and new legislation, the Georgia Open Records Act and the Georgia Open Meetings Act; maintains comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; attends continuing education, workshops, and seminars.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctorate degree required.
Minimum of five years’ experience in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in local government real estate transactions.
Three years’ experience in local government law and contracting.
Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and certification from the Georgia Bar Association.
Physical, Sensory, and Environmental Factors Tasks require light physical effort with some lifting (5–10 lbs); involve extended keyboard use. Visual discrimination of colors and sounds required; oral communication needed. Work performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
