This is a FlexSteel position and is located in Baytown, TX. Rotating Schedule: 2 weeks on days 2 weeks on night shift (night shift diff on that rotation)

Position exists to provide the Extrusion Manager a designated person, with leadership skills, responsible for an assigned shift, who functions as a mentor, coach and a supervisor or foreman type lead who is not only fully knowledgeable but also has the ability to provide or perform hands‑ons assistance in meeting manufacturing goals and objectives. Is competent to perform all work‑center related functions, but also possesses the advanced skill sets and experience to oversee the daily line operational functions and provide process expertise to the group for the purpose of completing flexible pipe products within the established safety, quality, and production guidelines. This position requires minimal supervision in unique situations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Leads team in meeting schedule requirements in the Extrusion work center are met without sacrificing safety and/or quality.

Coordinates work-center team activities including VFM/5S, team safety, quality, and productivity.

Coordinates breaks and sets the example of best production work practices.

Lead point of contact on assigned shift.

Provides feedback to the Department Manager and communicates information and instruction to team members.

Ensures work center housekeeping and safety procedures are followed.

Assists in work-center troubleshooting and problem solving.

Provides work‑center expertise to the Company.

Coaches and mentors fellow team members, which includes ensuring proper training of team members.

Provides solutions to production problems. Works closely with other departments to produce solutions.

Oversees work-center in machine set-ups, start-ups, run, process inspections and completions.

Provides feedback to evaluate team members, which includes necessary disciplinary action when required.

Provides and reviews appropriate documentation.

Provides hands‑on operation of the work-center equipment and machinery, including both liner and shield lines.

Provides hands‑on simple equipment maintenance and upkeep.

Provides feedback on work-center set up sheets and run information to Extrusion Manager and Extrusion Engineer.

Sets good work practice example.

Prepares and revises procedures and work instructions associated with work-center.

Provides and ensure proper training for both Lead Operators and Operators.

Responsible for determining, maintaining, installation and inspection of extruder tooling and ancillary equipment, necessary to fulfill production requirements.

Takes initiative in cost reduction and efficiency improvements associated with work-center.

Maintains extrusion line tools and consumable inventories. Ensures timely notification of upcoming shortages and order needs.

Documents own work and verify proper procedures are followed.

Provides and reviews appropriate documentation.

Performs regular audits of the extrusion work center, to ensure standard work is being followed by the operators assigned to the department.

Supports other work-centers as needed to meet manufacturing goals and objectives.

Other duties assigned by manager.

Oversee employees assigned to their work‑center or all employees assigned to the pipe production floor from all work centers in the absence of a department supervisor.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Directly oversees employees assigned to their shift; and has some responsibility for hiring, firing, and conducts disciplinary actions and performance appraisals.

Takes part in Quality and Safety meetings.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Must have a High School Diploma or GED, plus required work‑center training. Must have Lead Operator certification, hands‑on experience hours and/or competency module completion, proven process skills sets, have established leadership ability, possess relevant education or an equivalent combination, as established by FlexSteel’s Standard Operating Procedures.

In lieu of the above, an Associate’s Degree (A.A. or A.S.) or better and 4 years hands‑on Hydrostatic Testing and/or spooled product packaging and/or End Fitting/Connection installation or swaging experience in a manufacturing environment or Industrial Technical School with 6 years hands‑on Hydrostatic Testing and/or spooled product packaging and/or End Fitting/Connection installation or swaging experience in a manufacturing environment.

Leadership, interpersonal and mechanical skills, along with versatility, is a must.

Must have ability to work effectively with company personnel and customers.

Must be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Must have regular attendance on the job.

All requirements must be accomplished in primary business language, which is English.

Individual must have the ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Must have the ability to effectively present information to top management or other groups.

Ability as to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to prepare, interpret and present reports to direct or indirect management.

Must possess the ability to write, edit and implement process procedures.

Must complete all required basic skills, special skills and any training associated with the given qualifying production work center.

Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

General computer knowledge and skills.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Full recognized understanding of all aspects of the assigned work center.

Must have the ability to recognize potential problems, react quickly and work with Shift Lead and the technical group in the problem‑solving process. Strong problem‑solving skills are desired.

Attention to detail is a must; therefore, continuous analyzing of the on‑going process is important to recognizing and preventing potential problems. It is this individual’s responsibility to set the example in this area.

Must possess a high degree of verbal communication skills, to ensure daily safety, quality and production successes.

This position operates in an industrial/field environment. The role requires working in and around manufacturing equipment, heavy machinery, and potentially hazardous materials. While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly

Stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12 hours per shift)

Climb stairs and ladders

Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach

Work in confined spaces when required

Operate heavy equipment and power tools

This position operates in an industrial/field environment. The role requires working in and around manufacturing equipment, heavy machinery, and potentially hazardous materials. While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

Exposure to extreme weather conditions

Exposure to loud noise levels requiring hearing protection

Work in high places and confined spaces

Exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals

Work around moving mechanical parts

Work in hot and cold temperatures
