Position Description Summary APT Research is hiring an Exploration Ground Systems (EGS)

Quality Assurance Specialist 3

on the KSC Safety and Mission Assurance Support Services (SMASS IV) contract at Kennedy Space Center, FL. The role will perform quality assurance, oversight/insight surveillance, and provide QAS support to the EGS Program in SA-F division.

Responsibilities

Perform insight/oversight of processing for the EGS Program, focused on critical flight hardware and Ground System Equipment (GSE) across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Conduct audits, assessments, and process proofing of contractor QMS, work procedures, and operational processes to ensure compliance with quality and engineering requirements.

Inspections, surveillance, and requirement compliance while overseeing fabrication, assembly, test, and checkout of aerospace flight hardware and GSE.

Accept flight hardware/GSE, perform receiving inspections, and review Acceptance Data Packs.

Evaluate and trend contractor data for compliance with applicable requirements.

Monitor contractor processing schedule to identify key processes for surveillance inspections and In‑Line Assessments.

Support development/implementation of structured surveillance programs and other risk‑based quality models.

Evaluate adequacy, compliance, and effectiveness of contractor QMS activities; provide direct input to SA‑F Quality management regarding contractor performance.

Perform Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs), In‑Line Assessments (ILAs), surveillances, and track associated nonconformances.

Mentor and lead less experienced QA personnel.

Provide QA crossover support to Quality Engineers (QE) and support QE functions as necessary.

Identify quality, safety issues, and potential concerns for documentation and action.

Assume new and additional tasks with minimal direction.

Scope new assignments independently and complete them.

Required Experience/Education

Education:

High School Diploma

Experience:

7 years of Quality Assurance experience with complex systems

Background in aerospace industry or military experience; familiarity with systems used on aerospace or aircraft vehicles

Security Clearance Requirement

Must be able to qualify for an unescorted badge (U.S. Citizen required) and pass a background investigation & drug test.

Preferred Experience

Quality background with experience overseeing operations associated with complex systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, etc.)

Experience supporting or leading Quality Management System audits

Technical background in aerospace or military work; familiarity with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other systems used on aircraft or aerospace vehicles

Ability to read and interpret drawings, requirements, and specifications

Experience monitoring/evaluating contractor processing activities

Clear, accurate, and concise communication and writing skills

Proficiency with personal computers, especially Microsoft Word and Excel

Good social skills and teamwork capability

Essential Job Functions Work Environment

Full‑time, 40+ hours per week when required, including extended shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift changes.

Work beyond 40 hours may be required (comp time or OT per CO approval).

Non‑environmentally controlled areas.

Working at heights with fall protection (sometimes required).

Working in confined spaces (sometimes required).

Travel Requirements

May require domestic travel Physical Requirements

Extended standing, stooping, and bending.

Ability to climb stairs.

Ability to lift >15 lbs.

Other Essential Functions

Work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgement.

Appropriate work attire that does not impose a safety risk.
