Minimum Requirements
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
Six (6) months of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
One (1) year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, the physical or natural sciences, agriculture, or engineering.
Possession of a valid Class E driver license.
Education Note: Graduates using education attained in the United States must have verification of the applicable degree before appointment. Foreign‑trained graduates must provide a credential evaluation from an approved agency.
Additional Requirements
Regulatory responsibilities subject to Chapter 60L-36, FAC.
Must obtain a restricted‑use pesticide license within six months of initial employment and maintain licensure thereafter.
Must comply with respirator and self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) requirements and pass post‑employment physical examinations for respirator/SCBA use.
Frequent travel required.
Must be willing and able to be deployed from headquarters for extended periods for incident response.
Residency: candidate must reside in the negotiated headquarters county or one of the territory counties (Columbia, Hamilton, Suwannee) on the first day of employment and throughout the position.
Job Duties
Schedule and conduct inspections and collect samples as directed to determine compliance with Chapters 388, 482, 487, 576, 578, and 580, F.S., and rules 5E‑1, 5E‑2, 5E‑3, 5E‑4, 5E‑9, 5E‑13, and 5E‑14, F.A.C. Perform inspections and sample collections according to established policies.
Conduct investigations in response to reports, complaints, violations or suspicious matters to collect, summarize, and report evidence. Determine compliance with relevant regulations. Perform investigations in accordance with established policies.
Prepare and submit written and electronic reports in a timely manner as required. Submit reports in accordance with established policies.
Issue corrective notices as necessary in accordance with department policy.
Maintain knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations; read and interpret pesticide labels, regulations, and legal descriptions. Review current versions of relevant chapters and rules.
Participate in coordinated enforcement activities involving other department employees and government agencies as directed. Participate in statewide enforcement operations and special projects.
Serve as a representative of the department in administrative hearings, court proceedings or meetings as necessary.
Attend bureau and division meetings and training courses as required.
Perform other duties as requested.

Ability to work independently.
Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Ability to use personal computers.
Ability to lift, maneuver, and carry sixty (60) pounds.
