Job Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment and systems. This role ensures that machinery operates efficiently and safely, reducing downtime and supporting overall production performance in a unionized manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose equipment issues and perform mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic repairs.
Replace worn components, align and calibrate equipment as necessary.
Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery and facility systems based on schedules and logs.
Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and maintenance manuals.
Document all work performed and maintain accurate records.
Respond to emergency breakdowns and production stoppages.
All other reasonable duties as assigned.
Key Skills & Competencies
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Troubleshooting: Ability to identify root causes of equipment failure and resolve efficiently. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues is desirable.
Familiarity with PLCs, motor control systems, and automated machinery is a plus, as is ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical schematics.
Preventive Maintenance: Familiarity with PM techniques and reliability-centered maintenance.
Safety Awareness: Consistently applies safety procedures and lock-out/tag-out protocols.
Documentation: Accurately records maintenance activities and equipment history.
Communication: Effectively reports issues and collaborates with team members.
Adaptability: Capable of handling diverse tasks in a dynamic production environment.
Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Trade certification (Millwright or Electrician) .
Experience: Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting. Experience with CNC or automated equipment maintenance is an asset.
Languages: English (required).
Physical and Environmental Conditions Manufacturing floor; exposure to noise, oil, grease, electrical systems, and moving equipment.
Lifting parts and tools up to 50 lbs regularly; climbing ladders, working in confined spaces or elevated platforms.
