7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Rotating Weekends)
Notes:
Rotating weekends required. Blackout dates may extend the contract. No block scheduling permitted.
Position Summary The Emergency Room Registered Nurse provides competent, independent nursing care in a fast‑paced clinical setting. This nurse addresses both routine and complex patient needs while working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. The RN is expected to use clinical judgment, adapt care methods, and manage evolving patient situations effectively.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care
Uses the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) to provide evidence‑based care.
Administers medications and treatments safely and monitors for side effects and effectiveness.
Documents patient history, assessments, and interventions accurately in electronic health records.
Responds appropriately to changes in patient condition, escalating concerns as needed.
Adapts care to meet physical, emotional, cultural, and developmental needs of patients and families.
Patient Flow & Throughput
Anticipates needs related to admission, discharge, and transfer.
Utilizes communication tools to ensure smooth transitions and care coordination.
Participates actively in discharge planning and patient education.
Operations & Leadership
Assists with staffing and workflow management during assigned shifts.
Maintains proper use and care of medical equipment and supplies.
Supports orientation and education of new team members and peers.
Safety & Compliance
Follows all patient safety protocols and regulatory standards.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives and emergency preparedness.
Demonstrates understanding of healthcare laws, standards, and ethics.
Technical Competencies
Accurately reads and interprets patient charts and orders.
Troubleshoots and operates medical equipment safely.
Maintains complete and timely documentation using electronic medical records.
Transcribes and verifies medical orders according to policy.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience:
1 year of ER or related specialty nursing experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications (Required)
Current RN license in Texas or compact state.
Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA only.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – required for trauma‑designated facilities.
Additional Requirements
Crisis Intervention Training within 12 months of hire (renewed annually).
Attendance at Annual Nursing Competency Day.
Successful completion of Emergency Department‑specific competency validation.
Evidence‑based triage training (within 3 months for experienced RNs; 12 months for new graduates).
